SUNDAY 2nd August – 8th Sunday after Trinity

Today’s readings- Isaiah 55.1-5, Psalm 145.8-9,15-end, Romans 9.1-5 and Matthew 14.13-21.

Collect

Almighty Lord and everlasting God, we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws and the works of your commandments; that through your most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

🙏🏼We pray for those in self-isolation: God of compassion be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation. In their loneliness be their consolation, in their anxiety be their hope, in their darkness be their light, through him who suffered alone on the cross, but reigns with you in glory, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We pray For ourselves: Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy. Sustain and support the anxious, be with those who care for the sick and lift up all who are brought low; that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love. In Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Hymn

1 Guide me, O my great Redeemer,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but you are mighty;
hold me with your powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me now and evermore,
feed me now and evermore.

2 Open now the crystal fountain,
where the healing waters flow.
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,
ever be my strength and shield,
ever be my strength and shield.

3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of death, and hell’s Destruction,
land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever sing to you,
I will ever sing to you.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, while the church building is hosting times for private prayer and limited worship, we, the people who are the church, will keep in touch and in prayer through these Emails. For Sundays and Holy Days, you will see the full readings are given, and below this paragraph are the Collects for Sundays and Holy Days. For other days, the list gives two readings and the psalm. Feel free to use all the readings, or just one, perhaps the gospel. We are continuing to show other saints’ days, and a daily prayer intention reflecting both the Holy Days and saints’ days and also the situation in the world, now mostly following the diocesan prayer biddings during the pandemic. The names of those who have asked for our prayers, any known faithful departed, and the year’s minds when available are also listed below.
