Today we can announce we will be getting a Curate at Petertide next year.
Tristan Meares will join us in June, subject to him successfully completing his training at St Stephen’s House, Oxford.
Tristan writes:
“I was born and grew up in West Sussex in a village outside Horsham. Following a scholarship to Lancing College, I read History of Art at University College, London, and later took a degree in English Literature with the Open University. After my time at university, I was drawn more deeply into Church life, singing in the choir, serving as an Organist, and as a PCC Member and Secretary in my sending parish, among other roles. However, it was on Palm Sunday 2015 that the Lord called me to ordained service in his Church, and from September 2018, I spent 11 happy and busy months as a Pastoral Assistant in North London (at St. Mary’s, Somers Town), sustained by the rhythm of Prayer and the Sacraments, and made my first parish pilgrimage to Walsingham in June 2019, which proved to be a wonderfully blessed and joyful time.
“Training for Ordination at St. Stephen’s House has been in every way a real blessing, a challenge, and a call to put the Lord first and foremost in every part of my life, recognising that to serve Him thus is to be truly free. In addition to my studies, I am currently House Musician, drawing on my previous experience in various choirs and choral societies over the years. I also play the flute, love to read widely, and enjoy long walks. I look forward greatly to moving to rural Lancashire, and to serving in the parishes of Rufford and Tarleton.”
Welcoming the news the Rector, Fr Mark commented:
“On this day when Fr Daren Smith SSC the General Secretary of the Additional Curates Society was our preacher it was wonderful to be able to announce we are getting a Curate.
I look forward to us being able to share in Tristan’s many gifts. It will be great to have him as part of the team.”
