The Church of England has granted £50,000 to St Mary’s Church, Rufford to install disabled loos in the church. This grant part a scheme to improve disabled access in churches in the north of England has been warm welcomed by our Rector, Fr Mark Soady.

He said:

This will transform the welcome we are able to give to people to the church, be they worshipers, pilgrims or tourist visitors. It also gives us a wonderful kick start to our work to repair our tower and spire.

Work is expected to start on the toilet, which will be located at the base of the tower, early in the New Year.

We all want our churches to be places of welcome for all, and indeed we believe that church communities are only whole when they include everyone. However, there are  barriers which are keeping people away from our churches. With this project one such barrier will be removed.

A grant of £5,000 from the Number 1 Trust will also support this work.
