Today’s Collect

O God, you declare your almighty power most chiefly in showing mercy and pity, mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace, that we, running the way of your commandments, may receive your gracious promises and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure. Through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Prayers

🙏🏼 We pray for all parish clergy and parish office holders, that they may have the strength, imagination and wisdom, to enable each community to know it is prayed for, cared for and loved.

🙏🏼 Pray for those in self-isolation: God of compassion be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation. In their loneliness, be their consolation, in their anxiety, be their hope; in their darkness, be their light. Through him who suffered alone on the cross, but reigns with you in glory, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

🙏🏼 We pray for ourselves: Keep us good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy. Sustain and support the anxious, be with those who care for the sick and lift up all who are brought low; that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love. In Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

🙏🏼 Please pray for the sick & those in need: Margaret Baxter, Colin Brown, Jack Dalton, Jimmy Johnstone, Rosemary Lyon, Paddy MacDonagh, Ruth Middlesborough & Donald Sephton.

🙏🏼 For the faithful departed: Peggy Hague

🙏🏼 For those whose year’s mind falls this week: Thomas Rigby, Muriel Dodd, Ernest Highton Buck, Molly Holden, Robert Parkinson & Norman Dandy.

May we Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory

🙏🏼 In our cycle of prayer, we pray for those living in Moss Lea, Oakgate Close & Oaklands Avenue.

Today’s Hymn

The church’s one foundation
is Jesus Christ, her Lord;
she is his new creation
by water and the Word:
from heav’n he came and sought her
to be his holy bride;
with his own blood he bought her,
and for her life he died.

Elect from ev’ry nation,
yet one o’er all the earth,
her charter of salvation
one Lord, one faith, one birth;
one holy name she blesses,
partakes one holy food,
and to one hope she presses,
with ev’ry grace endued.

Though with a scornful wonder
men see her sore oppressed,
by schisms rent asunder,
by heresies distressed,
yet saints their watch are keeping,
their cry goes up, “How long?”
And soon the night of weeping
shall be the morn of song.

The church shall never perish!
Her dear Lord to defend,
to guide, sustain, and cherish,
is with her to the end;
though there be those that hate her,
and false sons in her pale,
against both foe and traitor
she ever shall prevail.

Yet she on earth hath union
with the God the Three in One,
and mystic sweet communion
with those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
like them, the meek and lowly,
on high may dwell with thee.
