SUNDAY 30th August – 12th Sunday after Trinity
Collect for today
Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than either we desire or deserve: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Today’s readings
Jeremiah 15.15-21, Psalm 105.1-6,23-26,45b, Romans 12.9-end & Matthew 16.21-end.
Today’s Hymn
Happy are they, they that love God,
whose hearts have Christ confest,
who by his cross have found their life,
and ‘neath his yoke their rest.
Glad is the praise, sweet are the songs,
when they together sing;
and strong the prayers that bow the ear
of heaven’s eternal King.
Christ to their homes giveth his peace,
and makes their loves his own:
but ah, what tares the evil one
hath in his garden sown!
Sad were our lot, evil this earth,
did not its sorrows prove
the path whereby the sheep may find
the fold of Jesus’ love.
Then shall they know, they that love him,
how all their pain is good;
and death itself cannot unbind
their happy brotherhood.

Today’s prayers
🙏🏼 As we remember John Bunyan today, we give thanks for Christian writers and pray for constancy to follow the master; Pray for all who have a role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, especially for those cleaning our churches after each use.
🙏🏼 For those in self-isolation: God of compassion be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation. In their loneliness be their consolation, in their anxiety be their hope and in their darkness be their light. Through him who suffered alone on the cross, but reigns with you in glory, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
🙏🏼 We pray for ourselves: Keep us good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy. Sustain and support the anxious, be with those who care for the sick and lift up all who are brought low; that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
