SUNDAY 2nd August – 8th Sunday after Trinity

Today’s readings- Isaiah 55.1-5, Psalm 145.8-9,15-end, Romans 9.1-5 and Matthew 14.13-21.

Collect

Almighty Lord and everlasting God, we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws and the works of your commandments; that through your most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

🙏🏼We pray for those in self-isolation: God of compassion be close to those who are ill, afraid or in isolation. In their loneliness be their consolation, in their anxiety be their hope, in their darkness be their light, through him who suffered alone on the cross, but reigns with you in glory, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We pray For ourselves: Keep us, good Lord, under the shadow of your mercy. Sustain and support the anxious, be with those who care for the sick and lift up all who are brought low; that we may find comfort knowing that nothing can separate us from your love. In Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

🙏🏼We give thanks for spiritual guides. We pray for all involved in the collection and treatment of rubbish and waste;

Today’s readings – Jeremiah 31.1-7, Ps. 121 and Matthew 15.21-28.

🙏🏼We give thanks for Christians in positions of secular power; pray for all secular leaders, that they make decisions based on ethical rather than selfish views, using good information.

THURSDAY 6th August – Transfiguration of our Lord.

Today’s readings – Daniel 7.9-10,13-14, Psalm 97, 2 Peter 1.16-19 and Luke 9.28-36.

Collect

Father in heaven, whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem, give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross that in the world to come we may see him as he is, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

🙏🏼 We give thanks for the revelation to the disciples and pray for ourselves to have a good understanding of those revelations.

🙏🏼We give thanks for hymn-writers and pray for all working towards a corona-virus vaccine and those involved in testing.

SATURDAY 8th August – Dominic, priest, founder of the Order of Preachers, 1221.

Today’s readings – Habakkuk 1.12-2.2.4, Ps. 69.14-20 and Matthew 14.1-12.

🙏🏼We give thanks for good preaching and the College of Preachers. We pray for those preparing to lead worship tomorrow & their congregations and for those who will watch pre-recorded worship.

Today’s readings – 1 Kings 19.9-18, Psalm 85.8-13, Romans 10.5-15 and Matthew 14.22-33.
